Three-Phase Electronic Solid Insulation Reclosers NOVA
The Kyle® Type NOVA recloser is a three-phase, vacuum-interrupting recloser designed for three-phase electrical distribution systems through 34.5 kV. The NOVA recloser is designed and ANSI tested as a complete system with a Cooper Power System control to assure reliable performance throughout its lifetime and compatibility with future updates.
The NOVA recloser is available with maximum voltage ratings of 15 kV, 27 kV, and 38 kV. The rated continuous current is 630 Amps. An 800 Amp accessory is also available.
The NOVA recloser is available with two configuration options:
- Auxiliary-Powered NOVA: The auxiliary power options are 120 Vac, 240 Vac, 125 Vdc, or 250 Vdc, for substation battery or transformer power.
- Control-Powered NOVA: The recloser interfaces with a single control cable for complete opening and closing power supplied from the control.
The NOVA recloser system successfully combines four patented technologies developed by Cooper Power Systems:
- Cycloaliphatic-epoxy encapsulation
- High-performance Kyle vacuum interrupter
- Dependable lower power mechanism
- Microprocessor and automated control
The solid polymer insulation system does not rely on a gaseous or liquid dielectric. The NOVA recloser is highly resistant to ozone, oxygen, moisture, contamination, and ultraviolet light. The NOVA recloser has three solid-polymer interrupter modules, an encapsulated current transformer, and an aluminum mechanism housing.
NOVA has an exceptional ability to resist electrical tracking.
NOVA cycloaliphatic epoxy maintains excellent hydrophobicity, is highly resistant to moisture absorption, and resists damage caused by ultraviolet radiation.
NOVA modules are tough and non-fragmenting as they possess outstanding tensile and flexural strength characteristics.
Kyle vacuum interrupters employ axial-magnetic contacts. Slots are machined into the contact support structure producing a coil that induces a magnetic field along the axis of the interrupter. This axial-magnetic field keeps the arc in an easier-to-interrupt diffuse mode, resulting in less arc power to be dissipated. Furthermore, Kyle's patented design uses the entire contact surface, resulting in far less contact erosion. Less power to dissipate means low thermal stress and longer life; ideal attributes for encapsulation processing.
The operating mechanism is operated by a dual coil magnetic actuator, which uses a low-voltage power source for operation. A fully charged battery and trip and close capacitors provide interrupter operation upon loss of control power. Consistent mechanism operation, without concern for control cable lengths, provides for years of rugged performance.
The recloser can be opened manually by using a hotstick to pull down the yellow manual OPEN handle located on the front of the recloser.
Integrate advanced vacuum technology; a sophisticated solid epoxy insulation system; and a low power mechanism with a Cooper Power Systems recloser control to obtain a standard distribution system solution for all your substation and feeder applications.
