Fault Protection
Shrubline VFI Vacuum Fault Interrupter
Kyle® Type Shrubline VFI vacuum fault interrupter pad-mounted switchgear provides fault interruption and convenient load switching for underground systems through 25 kV. Shrubline VFI switchgear uses oil as the insulation medium to provide a compact, low-profile installation. It uses the tri-phase electronic control, which can be set to meet specific distribution system protection requirements.
The Shrubline VFI is specially designed for use in Underground Residential Distribution (URD). From riser pole to the end of a URD loop, the Shrubline VFI offers practical and affordable advantages. It replaces riser pole fuses, provides intermediate in-line fault protection, tap or branch line protection, protection for isolated loads, and protection for normally open points in loop-fed URD systems.

Shrubline VFI switchgear utilizes a vacuum interrupter to provide fault current interruption and load make/break switching capabilities. The vacuum interrupter provides fast, low energy arc interruption and produces no arcing by-products to contaminate the insulating oil.
The Shrubline VFI breaker also serves as a vacuum load-break switch. The tap can be switched with a simple push-pull of the operation handle. The resettable breaker mechanism allows immediate service restoration, eliminating the added downtime and expenses associated with changing out conventional fuses. Since there are no expulsion fuses or switching by-products to contaminate the insulation medium, maintenance intervals are greatly increased.
Shrubline VFI switchgear features deadfront, tamper-resistant construction and is suitable for operation in areas subject to excessive moisture, occasional flooding, and blowing snow. Painted with the most advanced coating system in the industry, the Shrubline VFI retains a like-new protective finish years after others have blistered, cracked, chalked, or rusted.
The swing-up door is fitted with stainless steel hinges and has a floating lock pocket with padlock provisions and stainless steel pentahead door bolt.
Cooper Power Systems 15/25 kV 200A bushing wells are provided as standard. The wells meet the full requirements of ANSI/IEEE standard 386 for separable insulated connector systems. Bushings are mounted in-line a minimum of 20 inches above the pad.
The Shrubline VFI is controlled by the Tri-Phase electronic breaker control. It offers over 100 minimum trip settings and an assortment of time-current-curves. With standard instantaneous trip and optional minimum response curves, the Tri-Phase control can fulfill most coordination requirements.
There are four configurations available as standard.
