Switches
The Kyle® Type VCR three-phase oil switch provides switching capability for three-phase capacitor banks in sizes up to 7200 kVAR for 14.4 kV applications. Pre-insertion resistors, in series with the arcing contacts, significantly limit inrush current magnitude and frequency. Therefore, the VCR switch is applicable for parallel bank switching.
This exclusive design offers up to a 35% reduction in the peak transient overvoltages for switching operations. The pre-insertion resistors reduce the first peak of the transient by adding 6.4 ohms in the circuit for approximately 1/4 cycle. Today, with sensitive loads consisting of microprocessors and electronics, the need for eliminating transient overvoltages is greater than ever. The proven history and performance of the VCR, recognized by utilities and power quality consultants, makes it the best choice for use with sensitive loads.
The VCR motor-operated oil switch provides three-phase, capacitive load switching by remote control on manual command or automatically via current, voltage, or time-sensing devices.
A six-pin plug and receptacle are furnished for connecting the control circuits to the switch. Other standard equipment includes a contact-position indicator, an operations counter, a manual trip ring, and provision for manual closing. Accessories include a quick-close feature, a manual trip and block switch, a four stage auxiliary switch, an operator cabinet heater, and low-voltage surge arresters for the externally connected control circuits.
