The Kyle® Type SyncCap Power Quality Switch is a single-phase, electrically operated vacuum switch with synchronous closing intelligence and a mechanism that permits closing of the switch precisely at voltage zero.
For premier power quality applications where eliminating transient peak overvoltages is needed, the intelligent SyncCap Power Quality Switch is the answer. The switch, mechanism, control system, and vacuum interrupter are designed as one system, providing real time information and dynamically adjusting the mechanism to ensure extremely accurate synchronous closing.
The SyncCap utilizes a microprocessor-based control and patented closed-loop position feedback system with a voice coil operating mechanism to precisely control vacuum contacts. The control is programmed at the factory to close on voltage zero and never needs adjustment. Unlike motor operators and solenoids, the voice coil mechanism responds to instantaneous adjustments from the control. This dynamic feedback and regulation ensures synchronous operation regardless of temperature, humidity, contact erosion, tolerances, and manufacturing variability.
The SyncCap switch provides synchronous switch operation within 0.5 milliseconds, eliminating voltage transients on the distribution system. The integrated control system processes the close signal, system voltage waveform, and contact position to adjust the speed of the movable contact to provide the synchronous operation.
The SyncCap solid dielectric system, integrated control, and innovative operating mechanism are designed for no maintenance for the life of the switch. SyncCap utilizes the Kyle NOVA™ solid insulation system. An environmentally friendly dielectric containing no oil or gas, the cycloaliphatic material and mold design offer outstanding performance. Excellent hydrophobicity, ultraviolet resistance, shed design, and physical properties are all inherent to the NOVA insulation system.
The SyncCap is rated 15.5kV, 200 Amps with 110kV or 125kV BIL. The ANSI C37.66 rated switch is compatible with all existing capacitor controls and has a rated life of 30,000 mechanical open-close operations.
