Kyle® VCS-1, VCS-1M, and VCS-1S vacuum capacitor switches deliver the complete, reliable, and versatile solutions for demanding capacitor switching applications. The VCS family of switches all include Kyle vacuum interrupters and cycloaliphatic epoxy insulation for extended duty cycle life and no maintenance. Edison Technical Center and at Kyle Distribution Switchgear.
Designed to operate on 14.4 kV and 24.9 kV systems, these lightweight switches are gas-, foam- and oil-free. The low-power requirements and maintenance-free platform translate into continuing cost savings for utilities.
VCS-1 and VCS-1M Switches
Featuring a strong, ring-type manual trip and close handle for emergency needs, the VCS-1 and VCS-1M can close and latch on fault current successfully, per ANSI/IEEE C37.66, sec. 5.4. Manual closing, electrical closing, electrical tripping, and manual tripping are all standard features on the VCS-1M switch, anticipating any possible application requirement. Also, the manual trip, close, and latch handle serves double-duty as a switch position indicator.
The lightweight, economical VCS-1M requires only 1.4 amps of current at 120 Vac, allowing small standard transformers to power your capacitor bank, further reducing your installation costs. Add a non-sealed insulation system, leading vacuum technology, a manual close and trip handle, and a mechanism designed to provide over forty years of capacitor switching (two times per day), the choice is clear for your capacitor switching requirements.
VCS-1S Switch
The low-energy, solenoid-operated single-phase vacuum capacitor switch features an over-toggle latch mechanism. Positive engagement and securement of the switch contacts is ensured by this heavy-duty mechanism. An easily visible yellow indicator flag provides quick visual confirmation of switch position.
