Switches

Cooper Power Systems offers a variety of single-phase and three-phase electrically operated oil and vacuum switches for both capacitor and general current switching to meet the requirements of a wide range of applications. These switches are proven through years of service and are excellent solutions to improve power quality, VAR control, and even synchronous closing applications.

For general applications, switches are also used as an additional sectionalizing point between reclosers and to isolate individual loads on distribution system laterals.

Three types of switches are available.

Single-Phase Capacitor Switches

Single-phase capacitor switches are designed to switch capacitors up to 34.5 kV grounded Wye capacitor banks. The compact design makes them ideal for use on capacitor banks, especially pole-top installations. These switches are electrically operated and can be controlled by several manufacturer's controls.

Three-Phase General Purpose Switches

Three-phase general purpose switches, available in both oil and vacuum, are used for numerous applications, ranging from sectionalizing feeders to automatic transfer packages. Three-phase switches are available for systems up to 34.5 kV.

Three-Phase Capacitor Switches

Three-phase capacitor switches are designed for capacitor bank switching. For economical applications, oil switches that include damping resistors to mitigate the inrush current and frequency, lower system voltage inrush peaks, and minimize equipment damage can be used. Vacuum capacitor switches with NOVA™ technology are also available for demanding switching applications. The vacuum interrupter embedded in cycloaliphatic epoxy provides years of service without maintenance.
