Form 5 Recloser Controls
The innovative line of Kyle® Form 5 microprocessor-based electronic recloser controls, now with new database 16 firmware, brings advanced technology for improved protection and communication functionality - as well as reducing distribution automation costs.
The Form 5 Controls combine sophisticated data collection and microprocessor flexibility with the dependability to control Kyle's entire line of three-phase 2.4 kV- through 38 kV-rated, electronically controlled reclosers, including NOVA reclosers.
The Form 5 control is equipped with three serial communication ports, with two of them factory configurable to either 2179 or DNP 3.0 protocol. Two ports have the capability to interface with either RS-232 or fiber-optic equipment. The third port interfaces via RS-232 and is mounted on the front panel to facilitate local configuration and interrogation of the control. The power supply is designed to accept numerous external communication devices, including multiple radios, modems, etc.
The Form 5 control comes complete with the most flexible overcurrent protection functions in the industry, including TCC modifiers, Cold Load Pickup, High Current Trip, High Current Lockout, and additional modifiers to assure system coordination, even in the most difficult applications. The Kyle® exclusive TCC Editor is used to create and visualize the curve, including modifiers, before it is programmed in the control. Beyond overcurrent protection, the standard Form 5 Control is equipped with over/undervoltage and over/underfrequency protection, built upon similar flexibility designed with overcurrent protection.
The UDP (Universal Device Protection) function allows the user complete flexibility for their protection requirements, offering both recloser and switch applications.
The Universal application reduces significant costs by standardization of equipment, dynamic system reconfiguration, and immediate protection changes for system growth.
The Kyle Form 5 Loop Scheme (LS) recloser control with Universal Device Protection (UDP) provides operation in applications of distribution feeder loop sectionalizing schemes. The Form 5 LS/UDP control can be programmed for either the sectionalizing or tie mode of operation.
The Event Recorder will record and store the 500 most recent events in non-volatile memory, including configurable event types.
The programmable data-profiler feature enables data collection at user-selectable intervals. The profiler has the ability to graph the collected data to display a trend and a cyclic representation of the profile.
The operator panel allows easy local operation and status interrogation through built-in operator controls and status displays designed from an operator viewpoint. From the large Trip and Close pushbuttons to targets to counters, all needed operation information is easily available - without passwords, nested menus, or other complicated methods. Designed with the experience of forty years in the recloser control business, the front panel design provides the functions required for reliable and accurate system operation.
The Form 5 control provides instantaneous and demand metering with programmable integration intervals for the following functions:
- Real, Reactive and Apparent Power for each phase and total.
- Power Factor for each phase and total.
- Voltage Magnitude for each phase.
- Current Magnitude for each phase and neutral.
- Positive and Negative Sequence Voltages (Magnitude and Phase).
- Positive, Negative and Zero Sequence Currents (Magnitude and Phase).
Standardize on the easy-to-use Form 5 recloser control for automation, protection, and data collection for the most demanding applications.
