| Distribution Class Under-oil Mounted Arrester
Cooper Power Systems offers a unique arrester which mounts and operates under oil, our Type AZU. This heavy duty distribution
class arrester provides all the same outstanding characteristics of our externally mounted units, but with other unique positive
attributes.
The under-oil environment provides distinct arrester and customer benefits. These include better heat transfer to the cooling oil
surrounding the arrester which allows the arrester to recover quicker after impulse operation. Further, the arrester is not subjected
to the same environmental stresses seen in an outside environment. These stresses such as housing contamination and flashover due
to pollution or salts, wildlife shorting the arrester, vandalism or moisture ingress can all jeopardize the life span of the arrester.
Under-oil mounting takes these concerns away.
Also by having the arrester mounted under oil reduces the length of lead wires used to connect the arrester to the piece of
equipment it is protecting. Shorter lead wires lowers the voltage levels seen by the protected equipment.
