| UltraSIL (Silicone Rubber) Housed Distribution-Class Arresters
CPS stands alone in North America as the only distribution class arrester manufacturer to use silicone rubber housings. Among it's attributes, silicone rubber is recognized as the superior polymer insulating material for resistance to UV degredation and surface tracking, moisture repellency, temperature stability and low surface leakage currents (correlating to low watts losses). Our UltraSIL housings were specifically formulated and geometrically designed to give the highest level of insulation performance.
For safety, UltraSIL housed arresters have been certified to withstand
up to 20,000 amps of 60 hz fault current without expelling any internal components.
UltraSIL Polymer-Housed Evolution Distribution-Class Surge Arrester
Engineered to survive the elements and protect system assets, the UltraSIL polymer-housed Evolution distribution-class surge arrester from Cooper Power Systems is designed and engineered to provide utilities with proven reliability and field-tested construction.
Upgrade the efficiency of the power grid and reduce environmental impact…one transformer, riser, and mid-line arrester at a time.
Environmental Stewardship
Utilities are facing increased pressure to lower their carbon dioxide emissions. The Evolution surge arrester offers the opportunity to lower carbon dioxide emissions while enabling them to demonstrate their environmental stewardship. See B235-08033 to learn how the Evolution surge arrester is one small, cost effective, modern, and energy-efficient design.
Wide-Ranging Benefits
Whether the goal is enhanced asset protection, reduced equipment failures or improved supply chain management, the Evolution surge arrester meets customers’ needs.
The Evolution surge arrester meets the need for better discharge voltages and improved margins of protection. It eliminates the need for specialty ratings and multiple arrester types for various applications. The Evolution surge arrester provides a non-decaying TOV (temporary overvoltage) curve with overvoltage protection far superior to standard MOV arresters. In addition, the arrester’s margin of protection exceeds protective levels offered by standard MOV arresters. Refer to B235-08033 for information on the Evolution surge arrester’s protection benefits.
Customers currently using a heavy-duty or riser-pole arrester can now standardize with one—the Evolution surge arrester. Customers will benefit from inventory reduction and supply chain improvements.
Superior Performance
Cooper Power Systems has taken a quantum leap in surge arrester technology with the introduction of the Evolution surge arrester, offering a superior level of performance with revolutionary insulating materials capable of withstanding extreme electrical and environmental conditions. From our high-strength composite matrix that encapsulates the arrester’s internal components and provides structural strength to the 100% silicone rubber housing, our arrester ensures a long, reliable life. Our surge arrester has undergone numerous tests which are highlighted in B235-08033.

UltraSIL Housed VariSTAR Distribution-Class Arresters
CPS's gapless MOV series of surge arresters, our VariSTAR line, provides highly reliable service operation. The VariSTAR arrester
family is available in our unequaled silicone rubber housing package, the UltraSIL housed arrester.
UltraSIL housed VariSTAR distribution arresters are available in Normal Duty (type UNS), Heavy Duty (type UHS) and Heavy Duty Riser
Pole (type URS) designs. All three surge arrester design types have been certified to the latest revision of standard ANSI/IEEE
C62.11. Arrester duty-cycle ratings range from 3 to 36 kV.
