Low Voltage Secondary Arresters

Type S4 Arresters

Type S4 MOV secondary arresters are indoor- or outdoor-mounted arresters for protecting low-voltage equipment, secondary distribution circuits, control circuits and signal circuits. Available in 650 volts ac, Type S4 arresters meet or exceed the requirements of ANSI C62. 11.

For more information see Catalog Section 235-10.

Type L Arresters

Type L secondary arresters are indoor-mounted arresters for protecting street lighting controls, low-voltage relays, railroad signal circuits, fire alarm circuits, remote metering, and airport lighting. They are available in 175 volts ac and 125 volts dc.

For more information see Catalog Section 235-10.

Protective Gaps

Protective gaps are auxiliary devices which serve two purposes. (1) They isolate electrical equipment during normal service conditions, and (2) They provide a path to ground for surge current during arrester operations. Protective gaps provide effective and inexpensive surge protections for the primary neutral of a system (grounded only at the substation) if the potential of the primary neutral is less than 350 volts (rms) above ground. Transformer tanks can be isolated from ground under normal conditions by connecting the transformer to ground through a protective gap.

For more information see Catalog Section 235-10.

Storm Trapper® Secondary Arresters

Storm Trapper Secondary Class MOV surge arresters are designed to provide overvoltage protection for low voltage equipment, distribution circuits, appliances, submersible pumps, motors, and any other electrical apparatus connected to a secondary voltage source. The Storm Trapper is moisture proof, making it appropriate for indoor or outdoor use, and is available in 175, 350 and 650 volt ratings in one, two or three pole models.

For more information see Catalog Section 235-15.

Storm Trapper H.E. (High Energy) Low Voltage Distribution Class Arresters

Storm Trapper H.E., the industry's first low-voltage distribution class surge arrester, has a 40-kA high-current, short-duration and a 5-kA duty cycle rating.

The Storm Trapper H.E. is the most durable product available for low voltage applications. Its track record is nearly spotless and the results, in terms of reduction in equipment failures from overvoltages, speak for themselves. These arresters, when installed on distribution transformer secondaries, can dramatically reduce transformer failure rates.

The Storm Trapper H.E. arrester is moisture proof for indoor or outdoor use, and can be ordered with a stainless steel case to make it totally non-fragmenting. The Storm Trapper H.E. arrester is designed to provide overvoltage protection at the low voltage side of a distribution transformer, the service entrance and any other electrical apparatus connected to a secondary voltage source. Available in one, two and three pole designs in 175, 240, 480 and 650 volt ratings. The VariSTAR Storm Trapper H.E. is also available in an under-oil mount model with a 480 volt rating.

For more information see Catalog Section 235-16.
